Puerto Aventuras Mexico is an upscale, gated, resort/residential
community and marina located on the Riviera Maya 1 hour
drive
south of the Cancun airport, or 15 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, on
a 4 lane highway.
Puerto Aventuras Mexico is especially attractive to
families and couples.
There is a central commercial area in Puerto
Aventuras Mexico where you will find a number of restaurants, bars, shops,
services, activities, and deep water marina. On each side of the Puerto
Aventuras commercial center is a gorgeous, sandy, protected
bay. Each of these bays is ideal for swimming and snorkelling. To the South is
Fatima Bay which is often referred to as the Omni Beach because of the
hotel of the same name being located there. On the Northern side
of Puerto Aventuras is the Chan Yu Yum Bay where you will find the
Dreams and Catalonia hotels.
Puerto Aventuras is large enough to
provide most of the services and activities one looks for in a beach
vacation, yet small enough that you can still walk everywhere.

PUERTO AVENTURAS Oceanfront Vacation Rental Locations - Fatima
Bay / Omni Beach
This
is the main beach in Puerto Aventuras because of its public access
and larger size. It is characterized by soft white sand and a
shallow bay protected by an outer reef. This outer reef keeps
the bay quite calm most of the time making this an ideal place for
bathers.
At the north end near the Omni Hotel the ocean
bottom is quite sandy. As you move further south, although the
beach remains sandy, there are coral outcrops in the water, which makes
for good fish habitat and snorkelling, but requires bathers to use
caution or water shoes when getting in and out.
Fatima Bay is an ideal bay to snorkel, especially
out near where the reef is breaking. I have personally seen a wide
array of fish both small and medium size, as well as various types of
rays, numerous turtles, a few eels, and even a small nurse shark. (which
by the way are harmless and as scared of you - as you may be of them)
The Omni Hotel is open to the public so a great place to meet for a
meal, light snack, or late afternoon cocktail.
If you are wanting to gain beach access
without passing through the Omni Hotel. At the end of the row
of shops to the north of the hotel, there is an alleyway which will
take you through to the beach. It looks like you are passing
through the back of a dive shop but don't worry, this is a public
passageway.

PUERTO AVENTURAS Oceanfront Vacation Rental Locations - Chan Yu Yum Bay / Dreams & Catalonia Beach
Although
all of the coastline in Mexico is public property there is not always
public access. When that situation arises, the result will be a
beach that is somewhat private. This is the case with the beach on
Chan Yu Yum Bay, which is dominated by the 2 Catalonia hotels & Quinta Luna
condos on the north end, and Dreams hotel on the south.
Both the Dreams and Catalonia hotels are of the All Inclusive format so they do not allow walk
in traffic thereby restricting access to the beach to their guests and
those who are staying in one of the villas or condos located at either
end who can simply walk down the shoreline. Both the Dreams and
Catalonia hotels offer day or evening passes for a fee and both have
spas which are open to the public for a fee.
Smaller
than the more popular Fatima Bay. This horseshoe shaped bay is
similar in that it is ringed by glorious sand and protected by an outer
reef. Like Fatima Bay this makes an ideal spot for bathers and
snorkelers alike.
A fairly large saltwater lagoon heads inland from the
north end of the bay between the Catalonia hotel and Quinta Luna condos.
This lagoon is ringed by a number of condos and a popular spot to kayak.

PUERTO AVENTURAS Oceanfront Vacation Rental Locations - Las Rocas
Access to the exclusive
Las Rocas area of Puerto Aventuras is by a bridge over one channel of the
marina. The flat coral shoreline in front of the private villas
located here, is
broken up with an entrance into the marina on the south end of the
street and Chan Yu Yum Bay to the north. (see above)
The bay, shared with the
Dreams and Catalonia Hotels, is ideal for swimming and is only a short stroll along
the oceanfront from any of these villas. The sand from this bay extends part
way up the shoreline before ending just past villa Brisa Caribe.
In front of these villas,
the coral and limestone outcrop makes for dramatic vistas, provides a
soothing rhythm of water lapping against the shore, and is ideal for peaceful
strolls combing for shells and other treasures given up by the sea.
Because there is no public access to this area, it is also quite private.
At
the north end of Las Rocas nearly in front of villas Brisa Caribe, is an inviting saltwater pool cut into the coral which offer
relief from the heat and protection for those who are not so comfortable
in the open sea.
Along
Las Rocas the coral extends out and into the bountiful gin clear
Caribbean waters making this a wonderful place to snorkel and dive.
In fact you will often see dive boats not very far off shore.
My home, Brisa Caribe, is located at the north
end of Las Rocas where it meets Chan Yu Yum bay. I snorkel
here often and can report the best snorkelling is in front of the
Dreams hotel palapa bar on the rocky point. About 100 yards
off shore you will find a fairly large sink hole. There
are
some nice coral formations on the south of the hole and the shelf
under the overhang is a regular resting place for lobster, eels,
octopus and a wide variety of fish.
While snorkelling in front of the Las Rocas
area I have often seen turtles, nurse sharks and various types of
rays including a female manta ray with baby!

PUERTO AVENTURAS Oceanfront Vacation Rental Locations - Punta Brava
Punta Brava is a relative newly
developed
area of oceanfront condominiums along a rocky shoreline on the northern
boundary of Puerto Aventuras. It is bordered by the Aventuras Spa
Hotel to the north and Chan Yu Yum bay to the south.
Dramatic ocean vistas are the norm here. Idle time can be
swallowed up watching the dive, charter fishing, catamaran tours and
pleasure boats passing by. On most days the cruise ships can be
seen at port across the water in Cozumel.
The shoreline is relatively flat rocky limestone
outcrops. In front of the Pueblo Escondido and Punta Roca condo
complexes, saltwater pools fed and washed clean by the ocean, have been
carved into the stone providing a protected place to soak or swim.
Boardwalks of stone and wood have been laid over the rocks with islands
of grass thatch palapas providing places to get into the shade.
All of the condos have oceanfront freshwaters swimming pools.
Although no beach, it is a very pleasing and tranquil environment.
Snorkelling and diving in front of the Punta Brava
area is very good but it can be quite difficult to get in and out of the
ocean here.
From here the closest beach is on Chan Yu Yum bay in
front of the Catalonia hotels, however it can be a little tricky gaining
access.
The
Catalonia hotels are of the All Inclusive format so they do not allow
walk in traffic thereby restricting access to the beach to their guests.
However the hotels do offer day or evening passes for a fee and they
have a spa and gym which is open to the public for a fee.

PUERTO AVENTURAS Vacation Rental Locations - Golf
Course
The
Puerto Aventuras 9 hole par 36 golf course is
challenging, very pretty, and never busy.
Here you
can wander up to the clubhouse around 7 AM where you will
be sure to meet one of the residents who will likely
invite you to join them in a casual round. Or if
you want a really entertaining round and a chance to
mingle with the local Mayans, just ask one of the
grounds keepers to join you. Most of them finish
work by 3 PM, love to golf, and have the strangest
collection of clubs you could imagine. Armado who maintains
hole 5, is simply charming and will rarely turn down
a game. When I was golfing, I liked to do 9 holes in the morning
and then return to do another 9 in the afternoon,
saving the hottest part of the day for the beach.
Threading around and
through the golf course are a number of private villas. A few of
these homes are available to the rental market.

All are within walking
distance to the beach, restaurants, bars, boutiques, services, swim with
dolphins, fishing charters, tennis and the rest that Puerto Aventuras
has to offer.
