Tulum Mexico is located on the Riviera Maya 1.5 hours south of the Cancun airport on a 4 lane divided highway.  It is 60 minutes south of Playa del Carmen. 

The Tulum Mexico area of the Riviera Maya is very rapidly maturing.  Not so long ago your options for Tulum accommodations were a hostel in the Tulum village, thatch palapa or tent on the Tulum beach, or a cabana at one of a very few and very funky Tulum eco resorts only accessible by rattling down a beat up pot hole infested trail following the coast.  Great for a backpacker on a journey of discovery where time is of no concern but money is.  Not so appealing to someone with a short window of opportunity and a strong desire to de-stress without giving up the creature comforts.  Today your Tulum vacation rental options are much better.

Tulum Mexico normally refers to the Tulum Pueblo which is the small center of commerce for the area located about a mile or two back from the ocean, plus the stretches of beach from the Tulum ruins south to the entrance to the Sian Kaan biosphere, plus the tranquil Soliman and Tankha bays to the north of the Tulum Pueblo.
